Welcome to the Greater Manchester Cancer Urology Academy

As the pilot site for the Academy proof of concept, we are delighted to bring to you the Urology Academy. As our starting point, the Urology Academy transcends all care settings with education available for both those working within the urology speciality, to those delivering urology-related care. All learning produced is driven by workforce need that can be reviewed in the Training Needs Analysis.

Urology Courses

01 Haematuria

This course comprises of modules focusing on presentation, investigations, flexible cystoscopy and Trans-Urethral Laser Ablation (TULA).

02 Continence Management in Cancer

This interactive module focuses on all aspects of continence management including the impact it has on people, its causes and conservative management. This module will also provide an insight into the professionals and services available to help manage people with incontinence.

03 Prostate Cancer: UK Treatment Pathway

This course covers the prostate cancer pathway, from presentation and early diagnosis to treatment options. The course consists of 10 modules that cover the pathway allowing there to be education of benefit across all care settings and professionalisms

Catheter Care and Management

(Birley Place, in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University)

These courses are for professionals in roles supporting people with catheters. across all care settings. Content ranges from basics of catheter care to anatomy and pathophysiology

Module 2 - Primary and Secondary Care Investigations for Haematuria

This module reprises the ways in which blood in the urine (haematuria) can present in different patients and details the various investigative techniques used to establish a diagnosis.

Module 3 - TULA and Flexible Cystoscopy

This module aims to demonstrate the theories and technics used to support endoscopic evaluation, biopsy and ablation of bladder lesions.

Skills Labs

Catheter Care & Catheterisation Training

The Greater Manchester Training Hub has been working in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Cancer Academy to provide free catheterisation training to the registered social care workforce.

These interactive sessions are delivered by a subject matter expert and will consist of an initial presentation followed by a practical session.
